All I’ve heard this year is how good of shape Houston Oaks is in so I’ve been itching to get out there and play. Today I had the chance and I must say, it didn’t disappoint. I’ve played the course a few times in the past and it was in the best shape that I’ve ever seen it in. They’ve renovated the driving range with a flatter hitting area and what looked to be bermuda grass which is a huge step up from the old, uneven area they used to call their driving range. Behind the driving range, they have a good sized practice green with plenty of holes to accommodate a number of golfers practicing at the same time.
The course was very well kept and the greens were perfect and very fast; probably the fasted I’ve played in quite a while. Just to give you an idea, I don’t three putt a whole lot each year but I three putted three times at Houston Oaks. I actually like the greens as fast as possible as I find it much easier to make a smooth stroke, but going from normal speed greens to super fast greens was a shock to me since I wasn’t used to it.
I definitely recommend that if you are trying to decide what course to play for your next round of golf, make it Houston Oaks. I really don’t think you’ll be disappointing with the layout and conditions of the course. Sorry for not having any pictures as I once again forgot my camera. I’ll try to snap a few the next time I head by the course.
