Laurel Oaks Classic

Over the weekend I participated in the Laurel Oaks Classic. The tournament is held at Laurel Oaks every year on the third weekend of July. I’ve been eager to play in this tournament for a few years but I always forget about it when the time comes. I know a lot of the golfers that play in this tournament and know that there would be some stiff competition playing.

The tournament is a two day tournament with the players flighted after the first day. Anyone that knows me, knows that when I play golf I play to achieve the lowest score possible (no sandbagging), but unfortunately for me, on the first day I did a lot of stupid things and didn’t score the best that I should have. I ended up shooting a four over 76 and was bringing up the rear of the first flight after the first day of golf. The second day I ended up shooting an even par 72 after a three under 33 front nine. I hit some bumps in the road on the backside but kept plugging away and posted a decent score. I ended up tying for second place with two other golfers and eventually won second place outright after a one hole playoff.

This was my first tournament since playing in high school golf matches and it’s completely different than your normal weekend round with your buddies. I had a five footer for par on the first playoff hole to win the playoff and was very nervous, but pleased that I was able to calm myself down and hole the putt.

There are some extremely good golfers playing in this event and to be honest, I didn’t expect to really do much but glad that I as able to place and plan on playing again next year.
