Ryder Cup Media Pass Info Finalized

2008 Ryder Cup - Grounds Pass

I received additional information this past Thursday regarding my 2008 Ryder Cup Media Credentials. I knew I was approved for a media credentials and I also knew they have different levels of credentials that get you into different areas. I’m getting “Media” credentials which gets me into the: Grounds, Media Center, Interview Room, and Media Dining.

Having access to all of those areas as a part of the Media is an unbelievable opportunity. I’m allowed to also have a camera with me (borrowed a nice Nikon D40 from someone at work), so having access to those areas + camera = some sweet pictures in which I’ll be able to upload to the gallery at KentuckyGolfing. The only thing I was ...

2 For 1 at Marriott’s Griffin Gate

I came across this 2 for 1 coupon from Marriott Griffin Gate while browsing the web the other day.

I’ve not called to verify the validity of the coupon, so please call before going to the course to use it. Not a bad deal if it’s valid.

KentuckyGolfing.com is Bringing You All the Ryder Cup Action from Inside the Ropes

A couple months back, right about the time that I launched Kentucky Golfing I applied for media credentials to the 2008 Ryder Cup. I was extremely late in launching Kentucky Golfing (about six months late) and I figured that would really hurt my chances at snagging a media pass. I’m very excited to announce that Kentucky Golfing will be bringing you all the action from the Ryder Cup from inside the ropes as I was approved for media credentials to the 2008 Ryder Cup. This is such an amazing opportunity not only for me, but for this site as well. It will be a great networking opportunity to interact with all of the top media outlets from around the state and around the country for that ...

Laurel Oaks Classic

Over the weekend I participated in the Laurel Oaks Classic. The tournament is held at Laurel Oaks every year on the third weekend of July. I’ve been eager to play in this tournament for a few years but I always forget about it when the time comes. I know a lot of the golfers that play in this tournament and know that there would be some stiff competition playing.

The tournament is a two day tournament with the players flighted after the first day. Anyone that knows me, knows that when I play golf I play to achieve the lowest score possible (no sandbagging), but unfortunately for me, on the first day I did a lot of stupid things and didn’t score the best that I should have. I ended up ...

Cale Barr Takes the Lexington City Championship

July 10-13 was the annual Lexington Men’s City Championship. The Lexington City Championship is a four day tournament for golfers residing in Lexington city limits or those that hold a membership at a Lexington course.

This is a tournament that I’ve always wanted to participate in since moving to Lexington, but every year I’m either on vacation or cannot get off of work. If I played, I would only want to if I could play and compete with the best golfers at the tournament. Looking at the scores, there are quite a few very low rounds posted, but if I played my usual golf I would have finished somewhere in the top 20. I don’t get the opportunity to play in many tournaments though, so with ...

Kentuckygolfing.com is Sponsoring the KSBA Summer Golf Scramble

Kentuckygolfing.com will be sponsoring a hole at the inaugural Kentucky School Boards Association summer golf scramble which is co-hosted with the Kentucky School Boards Insurance Trust (KSBIT). The scramble will be held on July 11 at the Marriott Griffin Gate Golf Club. There will be around 100 golfers from all around the state and I believe this will be a great opportunity to get some exposure for the site. I hope the exposure will spark some interest in some of the features Kentuckygolfing.com like the Photo Gallery, Course Finder, and the Discussion Forums. I would love to see some regular readers coming back to the site and spreading the word to other golfers out there in the state of ...

Cherry Blossom is Top Course You Can Play in Kentucky According to Golfweek

According to Golf Week Magazine, Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Ky is tops on the list of Kentucky’s “Best Courses You Can Play.” I played this course a couple years ago and don’t remember much about it except that it was a nice course. I’m not so sure that it should get the ranking of top course you can play in Kentucky as given the choice of playing one of the courses in the list, I would pick Old Silo hands down. I have never played Lassing Pointe or Wasioto Winds, but for me, they would have to be flawless to be better than Old Silo.

Here is the top five you can play in Kentucky:

  1. Cherry Blossom – Georgetown
  2. Kearney Hills – Lexington
  3. Lassing Pointe – Union
  4. Old ...

Kearney Hill Golf Links Ranked 4th in the United States by Golf Link

Kearney Hill - Hole 18 Green - Clubhouse

Golf Link is one of the best web resources for golf information and instruction on the internet and they’ve compiled a list of the top 100 courses in the United States. Kearney Hill Golf Links is number four on Golf Link’s list of 100, just behind Bethpage Black, Augusta National and Pine Valley Golf Club.

This really comes as no surprise to me, this is one of my favorite courses in Kentucky, of the ones I’ve played that is. I work in Frankfort full time and usually will stop by Kearney Hill on my way back to Lexington to practice. Kearney has a great practice facility with two large putting greens, a chipping green with two deep bunkers surrounding it and plenty of space on the range to ...
